Specializing in transcript proofreading for court reporters
As a proofreader, I support court reporters in producing clean, accurate, readable, and professional transcripts.
Whether you’re a court reporter
with years of experience or someone just starting out, I can assist you.
When you entrust me with your proofreading, every word of your transcript is carefully read, with meticulous attention to details. I annotate the transcript
with clear corrections and suggestions.
To perform this work, I use industry-standard
references such as Lillian Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters and Margie
Wakeman Wells’s Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation, among others.
Just as important, I take
your expressed preferences into account and tailor my proofreading to your preferences and needs when marking corrections.
When you work with me, you
get:

Proofreading a transcript
demands attention to special details and issues. Here are some of the things I do:
Spelling
Check names, locations, terminology, and difficult words.
Punctuation
Check punctuation for dependent and independent clauses, polite requests, series of questions, echo questions, tag clauses, direct address, interruptions, and quotations; check hyphenation; ensure correct forms for open and closed compounds, plurals, possessives, etc.
Word use
Check for commonly misused or misspelled words; identify missing, repeated, transposed, or incorrectly transcribed words.
Numbers
Ensure appropriate use of figures, words, and formats for dates, times, percentages, measurements, decimals, fractions, currency, and other numbers.
Formatting and readability
Check by-lines, colloquy, spacing, indexes, Q & A, appearances page, certificates, keep-togethers, etc.
Accuracy and consistency
Check exhibit numbers, attorney and firm names and addresses, dates, etc.; ensure consistent spelling and punctuation conventions.
Here's how it works:

If you’re a first-time client, you’ll be asked to fill out my reporter preferences sheet or provide one you already have, such as this one from Stenovate. You should also provide a sample transcript. This information is to help me do the best possible job for you.
